Arizona mineral production up 10% to $7.38 billion

Arizona produced $7.38 billion of non-fuel minerals in 2007, the highest of any state, and equal to 10.85% of all U.S. production, according to the annual Mineral Commodities Summaries 2008 released by the USGS. Nevada had the second highest production at $5.21 billion.

The principal minerals produced in Arizona, in order of value, were copper, molybdenum concentrates, sand and gravel (construction), cement (portland), and lime.

This is the third year in a row that Arizona has been #1. In 2006, Arizona’s raw non-fuel minerals were valued at $6.71 billion, equal to 10.42% of U.S. production.
