Forest Service proposes approval of Rosemont copper mine

The U.S. Forest Service hand delivered the Draft EIS to us yesterday for the proposed Rosemont Copper mine in the Santa Rita Mountains [right, artists rendition of the open pit mine. We will review the DEIS and give our comments back to USFS within 30 days, with the Draft EIS expected to be released to the public for comment by August.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that "The proposed action is to approve the preliminary MPO (mine plan of operations) for construction, operation with concurrent reclamation and closure of an open-pit copper, molybdeum and silver mine."
